This Is What I’m Meant to Do, and I’m So Glad You’re Here

I didn’t set out to become a behavior consultant. I thought I’d be a shoe designer, build a successful business, and donate millions to dog rescues on the side. But life had other plans, and I’m so grateful it did.

After that dream didn’t pan out, I started volunteering at Salt Lake County Animal Services. What began as “just helping out” quickly became everything. I fell in love with the dogs no one knew what to do with, the fearful ones, the misunderstood ones, the ones everyone else tiptoed around. When I was invited to join the shelter’s behavior team, I realized this was more than just work. It was a purpose.

That sense of purpose still drives me today. I love watching the moment a pet tries something brave. I love it when a client emails me because they can’t wait to tell me what went well. I love seeing the pressure lift from someone’s shoulders when they realize, “Oh… this is actually going to work.”

My clients don’t want to give up on their pets. They want to understand them, and they want support that’s practical, judgment-free, and built for real life. That’s exactly what I offer.

If you’re ready to start making things easier for you and your pet, I’d love to help.

Hi There! I'm Kathy Jo Ventrano, And This Is My Story

Why Working With Me Feels Different

Most of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or just tired of trying to figure it out on their own. My job is to take some of that weight off. I’ll help you understand what’s going on and what your options are.

When you work with me you get:

  • Compassionate, non-judgmental guidance

  • Simple, actionable steps instead of long lists of tasks

  • Care that prioritizes your pet’s emotional wellness and safety

  • A partner in your corner, especially when things feel hard

You don’t need hours of training a day. You don’t need to do everything perfectly. You just need a plan that works for your life, and someone to walk through it with you.

What Guides My Work

I’m a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the IAABC, with over a decade of experience helping families navigate complex behavior challenges. That experience spans shelters and private homes, dogs and cats, and the many emotions that come with living with a struggling pet.

Whether I’m helping a scared dog take a brave step or supporting a client who’s feeling overwhelmed, my goal is always the same: to meet you both where you are and build a path forward together.

I believe behavior support should be kind, practical, and grounded in science.

That means:

  • No scare tactics

  • No shame

  • No one-size-fits-all plans

  • Just thoughtful, customized guidance that fits your life and helps your pet feel safe enough to grow.
